About this online course:

With the backing of Google, Verizon, and other companies, the Android platform is poised to take the mobile market by storm. One of the big reasons is portability: now you can build apps that will work across several devices.

In this dynamic 5-week online workshop, you’ll learn the basics of Android development while using your Java skills to build a working app from start to finish. As you add more features in each session, your app will become a little smarter—and so will you. You’ll have direct access to the instructor via online Q&A during the workshop. And here’s the best part: the classes are free! There’s no charge for these classes, and no hidden fees.

If you can’t attend the live presentations—or do attend and want to revisit them later—the classes will be available on video. For a special introductory price of $49, you can download the entire four-course package, including all of the code examples and slide presentations. But don’t delay: the introductory price expires on March 16, 2010. This video package will also be available on Safari Books Online.

Who should attend?

  • Java developers who want to create Android apps
  • Developers with extensive experience with Object-Oriented Programming (such as C#) who can pick up Java basics quickly

What should I already have?

  • Java 1.5 or greater
  • Eclipse: Ganymede or greater
  • Android SDK 1.5 or greater
