Baalbek is a city in Lebanon, known for its huge and beautiful Roman temples. A long time ago, it was called Heliopolis, which means “City of the Sun.”

The Romans built big temples there around 2,000 years ago to honor their gods like Jupiter, Bacchus, and Venus. The temples were made with giant stones and amazing designs. Even today, people are surprised by how large and strong they are.

Baalbek was later damaged by earthquakes, wars, and time, but many parts of the temples are still standing. Today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and tourists visit to see this great piece of Roman history.

Baalbek was not destroyed all at once. Over many years, it was damaged by earthquakes, invasions, and neglect. But parts of it survived, and that’s why we can still see the ruins today.
